Dream with Gurnard Latchet: Celebrate this unique fish that can be found in Tasmanian water.
 
The Latchet fish, also known as the Latchet gurnard or Butterfly gurnard, is a fascinating fish with a distinctive appearance and a few interesting facts. They are known for their colorful pectoral fins, often with bands of yellow to green spots. Latchets can grow up to 61cm in length and weigh up to 2kg. 
 
Distinctive "Walking Legs":
Latchets have modified pectoral fins that they use to "walk" along the seabed. 
Colorful Pectoral Fins:
The pectoral fins are large and brightly colored, often purplish with white speckles on the outer surface. 
Sharp Beaks:
They have two long, forward-directed spines on their snout. 
Similar to Flathead:
Latchet fish have a similar texture and taste to Flathead, making them a good seafood swap. 
Diet:
They are bottom-feeders, consuming small crustaceans, worms, and other invertebrates. 
Habitat:
They inhabit sandy, silty, and muddy areas in coastal waters, estuaries, bays, and harbors. 
Distribution:
Latchets are found in the southern marine waters of Australia and New Zealand. 
Multiple Common Names:
They are also known as Flying gurnard, Sharpbeak gurnard, and Spiny gurnard.
